Issue Position: Economy

The U.S. Census indicated 311 million people reside in the United States. Of these, over 13 million are unemployed, according to the bureau of labor statistics. If you combine those unemployed and the people that can only get part-time work, the total ends up over 24 million.

People are losing their homes to the very companies we bailed out. New home building is slowing down and resale is poor. Home prices have fallen due to the amount of foreclosures and vacant houses that are available.

Bottom line, the economy is slow.

The supposed stimulus package of $819 billion did very little to stop unemployment and stimulate the economy. Using that $819 billion as seed money for new businesses would have been a more profitable option.

Most of our employment comes from small businesses, not huge corporations. Give the little people with the business plans a little seed money, where they can in turn hire employees. This then leads to the employees spending their paychecks and stimulating the economy.

Furthermore, we need to look outside the beltway and into our economy where it's really crippled. Let's stand together to fix the problem.

As your congressman, I would press for less of the large corporate subsidies and for more small business seed money.
